In our previous blog, I wrote about the ever representing Cubic zirconia and I emphatically stated that Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is an inexpensive diamond alternative with many of the same qualities as a diamond and it is almost visually indistinguishable from natural diamonds.
GRADES OF CUBIC ZIRCONIA
Just like Diamonds, Cubic Zirconia has quality levels. What this means is that Cubic Zirconia stones are not the same in terms of quality, looks and market value. They are rated from A to AAAAA. A is the Lowest Quality, while AAAAA is the Highest Grade available.
We can grade Cubic zirconia using the same qualities that diamonds and other gemstones are graded with which is the use of the Four Cs (Cut, Clarity, Color and Carat Weight).
CUT- Just like diamond, the Facet of the highest quality of Cubic Zirconia is smooth with round edges,
CLARITY- In the course of creation, a stone can develop unclearness it is called visual imperfection. The clearer the stone appears, the greater value it has. High quality Cubic Zirconia is almost entirely flawless because it does not have any inclusions unlike Diamond. (Inclusions are small imperfections within a diamond that are created due to the extreme pressure and heat that diamond experience when it is formed).
COLOR- Cubic Zirconia shares almost the same characteristics with diamond when it comes to “high grad of color”. Cubic Zirconia is absolutely colorless and you will not find any shades in the stone. What that means is that when you buy a Cubic Zirconia, you don’t need to worry about seeing any hints of brownie colors. Cubic Zirconia has this esthetic glow or let’s say unique brilliance that is a lot more colorful than a real Diamond. Trace elements are added during the creation process to create a colored stone. These colored stones are rated on their own for uniformity and intensity of color.
CARAT- Just like a Diamond, a Cubic Zirconia is rated by its weight, or Carat Size. But Cubic Zirconia is denser than a Diamond, if you juxtapose the two stones of actual size, you will notice that Cubic Zirconia will be detectably weightier and even twice as heavy. The weight of a Cubic Zirconia is another factor that determines its rating.
